The challenge?

British Waterways is responsible for a wide variety of mobile maintenance equipment, some of which is used for lifting. This equipment must comply with the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER).

Example

Lifting gear, such as chains, slings and shackles needs to be individually identified and tested on a regular basis.

The Ritchey ID solution?

Ritchey ID has provided the organisation with a range of coloured tags. Large, yellow flag tags are attached to any equipment that has been deemed unsafe to use.
Other tags are colour-coded and changed every six months. These carry an expiry date, or ‘do not use after’ message to staff. Ritchey ID manufactures, prints and delivers tags to 18 British Waterways depots following a single order.

User comments

Nick Crosby of British Waterways says he started using Ritchey ID tags in 2006.

“The tags work very well and provide us with a simple means of keeping track of our equipment and making sure it is safe to use. We order several thousand tags at a time and the customer service has been excellent.”
