The challenge?
The company has a wide range of rigging and lighting equipment, including ropes and slings. Items need to be identified for stock control, theft prevention and safety regulation compliance.
Some of the equipment used at live entertainment events poses a challenge when it comes to identification, because of its awkward shape or size. It also has to operate within a hostile environment.
Examples
The long steel ropes used for hauling equipment up to high-level rigging need to be individually identified and tested periodically, to comply with safety regulations.
The Ritchey ID solution?
Ritchey ID supplies PRG Europe with shrink-wrapped, bar coded and colour coded tags. The tags slide over the steel ropes, and shrink down when a heat gun is applied. A clear over sleeve is used for protection and information is accessed via a simple bar code reader.
Ritchey ID also provides PRG Europe with a range of coloured, nylon identification tags. These are made in seven different colours that are changed every six months to indicate that the equipment has been safety checked, or whether it is due for inspection.
User comments
PRG Europe’s Billy Bean says he is very pleased with the Ritchey ID tagging system, which was implemented in 2006. The tags allow staff to keep track of equipment, as well as making sure the company complies with safety regulations.
“We tried a number of other options before we discovered Ritchey ID,” says Mr Bean. “Our identification system has to be highly durable, because some of our equipment is driven into the ground or used for excavation. Ritchey ID has come up with a highly robust solution that suits us, and we are very pleased with the products.”
