The challenge?

Shepherd Engineering Services has an obligation to ensure that anyone using its equipment complies with current health and safety legislation.

Example

Jack hammers and pneumatic drills can cause hand/arm vibration syndrome. Users need to be made aware of the maximum time limit relating to continuous use.

The Ritchey ID solution?

Tags designed specifically to fit in with SHS requirements have been provided by Ritchey ID. Each piece of equipment is given an individual ‘large flag’ plastic tag showing the name of the tool, stating permitted length of use and giving advice on the wearing of personal protection gear. The tags, which can be attached by split rings or cable ties, are also branded with the SHS company logo.

User comments

SHS spokesman, Neil Wharram placed his first tag order with Ritchey ID in 2006. He says they have helped to promote the safe use of equipment. They are also extremely durable, he adds.

“The tags have been a great success,” says Mr Wharram, who is based at the SHS York office. “Hand/arm vibration issues have been the focus of a lot of attention in recent years. Tagging is a good method of making sure that everyone is aware of maximum usage periods.

“We send details of the printed text we need to Ritchey ID, and the finished tags are delivered back to us with minimum fuss. As a back up, we have put up a poster in the office which also displays health and safety information.”
