The challenge?

The unique remains of a well-preserved, 15th Century mediaeval ship were being removed from the sea for reassembly.

Discovered on the banks of the River Usk in Newport, South Wales, the Mary Rose pre-dates Henry VIII’s internationally-acclaimed flagship by more than 50 years. The ship was uncovered during excavation work for a new arts centre.

Example

The ship was dismantled piece by piece, with more than 2,000 items removed and logged. The ultimate aim was to reconstruct and display the ship in a purpose-built gallery.

The Ritchey ID solution?

Ritchey ID’s robust polyurethane tags were used to identify each item as it was removed.

Charles Barker, director of the prestigious Mary Rose Trust explains that the fragile timbers had to be stored in a chemical solution for conservation purposes. This solution was highly corrosive to many other materials, including metal. However Mr Barker reports that Ritchey ID’s  polyurethane tags were invaluable. Their robust nature withstood the challenges presented by the extremely harsh environment.
