Case Study
Barcellos Holdings Limited - providers of multi-user hardware and software solutions
The Brief
In the Autumn of 2011 Barcellos Holdings Limited were approached by Cleanevent, a facilities management company providing a number of services to the 2012 London Olympics. Cleanevent required a scanning system to be developed to track athletes laundry to ensure items did not go missing.
The Solution
Barcellos implemented a system of 20 scanning stations, using their own in house developed software and 60,000 Ritchey ID supplied Barcoded Small Flag Tags and Cable Ties. These tags were attached to mesh bags provided to each of the athletes, then when the competitors would bring these bags to the laundry their ID pass would have its barcode scanned along with the tag on the bag.
This process allowed for ease of traceability by linking specific bags to the athlete with which it belonged, as when they later returned to collect the clean and dry laundry their ID would again be scanned and the system would then direct the laundry staff to the correct bag.
Further benefits of this system were that it allowed Barcellos and Cleanevent to create reports providing accurate data as to how much laundry was processed, items which had not been collected and provide a full audit trail for all bags processed for each athlete during the course of the event.
Glasgow 2014
Due to the success of London 2012 Barcellos will once again be working in conjunction with Cleanevent to provide 7 scanning systems. These systems will be utilising Ritchey ID tags to provide laundry traceability to a large scale athletics event being held in Glasgow this Summer, it’s sure to be another gold medal performance.
